Colourblind: A Particularly Polite Breed of Racism with Bruce Tsuji

Room and Parking Information will be sent by email 1-2 days prior to the lecture date.

Overview

When someone says (often with the very best of intentions) “I don’t see colour or race” many people of colour cringe. Why is that? In this expert seminar from Bruce’s Lifelong Learning course at Carleton University, we will dissect this comment and summarize what the psychological research says about it. We will find that although it is dressed in some of the best clothing it hides a rather pernicious message.

About the Lecturer

After three decades of software design and management, Bruce accepted a tenure-track appointment in Psychology at Carleton University in 2013. There he received Carleton’s Teaching Achievement Award, was voted “Favourite Faculty” by students, and served as the Department’s teaching mentor for other faculty. Bruce retired from Carleton in 2021 with authorship of over 100 conference and journal papers and with the honour of contributing to the learning of over 20,000 students.
