Overview
This small-group course led by LLeaP lecturer Maria Martin will help you to develop your knowledge, appreciation and comfort level when viewing and discussing art. Each week’s class takes place in the exhibition spaces at the National Gallery of Canada,
with a different theme each week: European Portraiture; Architecture in Art; Impressionism and Post-Impressionism; 20th-century Sculpture; and Canadian Artists of the 50’s and 60’s, including Inuit sculptors and Indigenous master Norval Morrisseau. The final session will explore new exhibits in the Contemporary galleries.
Lectures and discussions will take place in front of selected artworks in the Gallery’s collection, with consideration of each artwork’s meaning and context, and related issues such as condition, conservation and valuation of the art.
